What is nOS?
nOS is master scheduling software for K-12 schools, made by nOS LLC in North Carolina. It collects students’ course requests, builds the master schedule from them, tells you why any request didn’t fit, and sends the finished schedule back to your student information system. Before any requests are in, it can schedule your teachers and classes on their own.
What is master scheduling software?
Master scheduling software builds a school’s master schedule: which sections of each course run in which period, with which teacher and room, so that as many student course requests as possible fit. nOS builds it from course requests, explains every request it could not place, and returns the finished schedule to your student information system.
Who is it for?
Whoever owns the master schedule at a lower, middle or high school: a registrar, an assistant principal, a counselor. It handles homerooms and specials, teams and advisory, ranked requests and alternates, rotating days, year-round tracks, and several schools on one login.
How much does nOS cost?
$9.60 down to $7.00 per enrolled student per year, in 100-student bands, with no setup fee. You can buy a plan online by card or ask for an invoice. Districts and multi-year terms are quoted.
Will every course request fit?
Not always. Sometimes the sections, seats and teachers you have can’t hold every request. Before it builds, nOS works out the most any schedule could place, then tells you which requests didn’t fit and why.
Can we schedule teachers before students enroll?
Yes. Turn on Teachers only and nOS schedules your teachers and classes before any course request exists: it places every class in a period and, with your OK, chooses a teacher for a class that has none. The first course request makes it a full build, and the teachers-only schedule stays in All schedules.
What does nOS measure before there are students?
Classes ready: the share of classes that are staffed, placed and free of teacher, room and homeroom double-bookings. No student is counted, so a schedule that placed nobody never reads 100%.
Does it work with our student information system?
nOS connects to 19 student information systems, including PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, Blackbaud, Veracross and Skyward. Some take the finished schedule back directly; others get a file your administrator imports. You can also start from a spreadsheet.
